About this app

A 1987 murder mystery

Thimbleweed Park is a horror adventure game set in a small town in 1987. FBI agents Angela Ray and Antonio Reyes arrive to investigate a murder, and their inquiries connect them with several unusual residents: Delores Edmund, a computer programmer; Ransome the Clown, cursed to keep his makeup on; Franklin, Delores’s father; and Chuck Edmund, the recently deceased owner of PillowTronics, a robotics company. The story follows five playable characters as they investigate, explore, and become involved in the town’s secrets.

The case leads through places including a hotel, an abandoned circus, a bridge, and the PillowTronics factory. The investigation involves collecting evidence such as blood samples, fingerprints, and photographs. The agents arrest Willie T. Wino, who denies responsibility, but the story does not end with that arrest. Ray and Reyes later return to town under different identities and with separate objectives: Ray is tasked with taking computer secrets, while Reyes wants to clear his father of blame for a fire at the factory.

Characters and the town’s secret

Other character stories intersect with the investigation. Delores learns that Chuck has removed her from his will after she chose a career in video games. Franklin tries to present business ideas to Chuck and is later murdered at the town hotel, becoming a ghost. These personal conflicts sit alongside the central mystery, giving the playable cast different connections to the town and its past.

Ray, Reyes, Delores, and Ransome eventually enter the PillowTronics factory. Delores disables its security systems, and the group discovers that Chuck has uploaded his personality to the factory computer. Chuck’s revelation changes the nature of the mystery: the residents are trapped in a repeating video game, and deleting it is presented as the way to free them. The story’s later events include Ransome apologising to the townspeople, Franklin saying goodbye to his daughter, and Delores entering a prototype version of the town called the “wireframe world.”

Touch controls and puzzle interactions

Movement and interaction use touchscreen taps. Tap to move, then select a verb shown on screen and tap a person or object to carry out that action. For example, “Pick up” selects an object to collect, while “Use” lets you choose an item and then choose what to use it on. “Give” follows a similar selection process but applies to people. The available verbs provide the basic interface for examining and interacting with the surroundings.

Some actions can be selected with a double-tap: this triggers the default interaction for the target. People default to “Talk to,” doors to “Open” or “Close,” and most items to “Look at.” A double-tap followed by holding a finger on the screen lets the character follow that finger, rather than requiring repeated movement taps; moving the finger in the opposite direction can change the character’s direction.

Touch gestures also support hotspot discovery and dialogue selection. Pressing and holding anywhere on the screen reveals available hotspots; drag to one and lift your finger to interact. For dialogue choices, drag across the options until the preferred one is highlighted, then lift to select it. Two-finger swipes skip dialogue, while three-finger swipes skip cut scenes. The opening cut scene cannot be skipped, including on a repeat playthrough.

Difficulty and presentation

The game has Casual and Hard modes, with the Hard mode offering more challenging puzzles. The description identifies the puzzles as part of the story and mystery, rather than as a separate activity. The setting is presented as a neo-noir mystery, while its locations and characters mix crime-solving with ghosts, a cursed clown, abandoned attractions, and other unsettling details.

English voice acting is listed, alongside subtitles in English, German, French, Italian, Russian, and Spanish. The game is credited to Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, creators of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. Settings include helpful tips, and some controls are shown when the game starts. The supplied description does not specify an Android system requirement; the listing identifies the game as an Android title.
